Habibi Funk

Both the name behind the DJ and the (reissue-based) indie label with one of the richest catalogues of Arab music from the 1960s onwards, Habibi Funk brings sonic research to life, translating it to dynamic dancefloor experience. Jannis Stürtz is a co-founder of the Berlin-based label and a name behind the Habibi Funk DJ, who started the label after his visit to Morocco, developing a desire to expand the reach of a diverse Arab (predominantly) soul and funk scene of the second half of the 20th century.

Habibi Funk Records counts more than 30 reissues, mixes and original work – from Sudanese jazz to Tunisian funk, educating the masses in Europe and beyond on the often overlooked musical and cultural richness of this region. “Eclectic sounds from the Arab world” as the label and DJ describe themselves, the Habibi Funk sets are always filled with infectious energy and explorative approach, promoting the universality of music’s power to unite.
